Meet The Team

Dr. David White​

BSc, MSc, MD, CCFP(SEM), Dip Sport Med (CASEM)

Born and raised in Ottawa, Dr White attended the University of Ottawa and received a BSc in Human Kinetics and a MSc in Neurosciences. He completed his undergraduate medical education at the University of Toronto before returning home to complete his residency in Family Medicine in 2014, and his fellowship in Sports and Exercise Medicine in 2015. He has been with the Optimize team, led by Dr Gauvreau since its opening. 

 

Dr White has previously worked on the medical teams for 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup,  2015 Pan American Games and the Ottawa Fury. He is currently a team physician for the Ottawa 67’s, and RedBlacks. He is an active teacher with the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa.

Dr White looks forward to continuing to provide leading edge care in Sport Medicine procedures including Ultrasound guided injections (osteoarthrtitis, tendinopathies, bursitis) and the latest in Orthobiologics including PRP (Arthrex ACP and Angel systems) and Hyaluronic Acid/Viscosupplementation (Monovisc, SportVis)

Dr White has played several competitive sports including hockey and baseball. He has completed over 15 triathlons and currently enjoys skiing, golfing, and running.

Dr Janet Barber

BSc, MSc, MD, CCFP, Dip. Sport Med

Dr Barber was born and raised in Ottawa, and attended the University of Ottawa where she obtained a BSc in Biochemistry and MSc in Chemistry. She then attended the University of Western Ontario for medical school, returning to Ottawa to complete postgraduate residency training in Family Medicine in 2018. She completed her fellowship in Sport and Exercise Medicine at the University of Ottawa in 2022, after which she joined the team at Optimize.

Dr Barber is currently team physician for uOttawa Women’s Soccer, and has worked with Men’s Rugby at Carleton University in the past. She has provided medical coverage at events such as Skate Canada National Championships, Ottawa Race Weekend, and Volleyball Nations League. She has been involved with teaching both residents and medical students at the University of Ottawa.

Dr Barber provides treatments including ultrasound guided injections (osteoarthritis, tendinopathies, bursitis) and the latest in Orthobiologics including PRP (Arthrex ACP and Angel systems) and Hyaluronic Acid/Viscosupplementation (Monovisc, SportVis).

Dr Barber participated in many sports growing up, focusing on competitive ringette and soccer. She continues to compete in both these sports in addition to training in CrossFit on a regular basis.

Dr. Ashley Olsen​

BSc, MD, CCFP (SEM), Dip. Sport Med (CASEM)

Originally from Winnipeg, Dr. Olson earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Manitoba, where she participated in varsity rowing. Subsequently, she completed her Doctor of Medicine and Family Medicine residency before pursuing a fellowship in Sport and Exercise Medicine in Ottawa. Dr. Olson has an extensive academic background, holding a Bachelor of Science in Medicine for her research in Pediatric Sport Related Concussion, a Diploma from the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine (CASEM), and a Certificate of Added Competence from the College of Family Physicians of Canada.

During her fellowship, she served as the team physician for the University of Ottawa rugby and Carleton University’s hockey teams, and she has provided medical coverage at various events, including the Volleyball Nations League and the North American Indigenous Games. Additionally, Dr. Olson is actively engaged in teaching medical students and residents at the University of Ottawa.

At Optimize, Dr Olson provides specialized care in diagnosing and managing acute and chronic
musculoskeletal conditions. She performs ultrasound-guided injections, including
corticosteroid, hyaluronic acid (viscosupplementation) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Her goal is to work with you to develop a treatment plan that helps you return to what you love to do.

Dr. Olson played competitive basketball and team handball for many years. Outside of work, she
enjoys staying active with cycling, swimming, and hiking

Dr. Aaron Fahey

BSc, MD, CCFP (SEM), Dip. Sport Med (CASEM)

Born and raised in the town of Chelsea, Quebec, Dr. Aaron Fahey is a dedicated medical professional with a passion for sport and exercise medicine. He earned his undergraduate medical degree at Université Laval in Quebec City before returning home to complete his Family Medicine residency and subsequently pursue a fellowship in Sport and Exercise Medicine at the University of Ottawa.

Dr. Fahey has been part of the Optimize team since 2023. He has previously worked with varsity sports teams, such as the Carleton Men’s Rugby team and uOttawa Women’s Varsity Hockey team. Additionally, he has provided medical coverage at events like the Bingham Cup and the Ottawa Summer Indigenous Games.

Dr. Fahey is also engaged in medical education and has been involved in teaching medical students and residents at the University of Ottawa.

With a special interest in ultrasound-guided injections, Dr. Fahey offers a range of advanced
treatments, including cortisone for conditions like osteoarthritis, tendinopathies, and bursitis,
as well as hyaluronic acid/viscosupplementation and PRP injections.

Beyond the medical field, Dr. Fahey has a lifelong love for the outdoors and sports. Growing up, he played soccer for the Ottawa Fury and competed in cross-country skiing where he represented Canada at the World University Games. His diverse experiences contribute to his holistic approach to healthcare, emphasizing the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle in overall well-being.
